Cost of an Automatic Sliding Gate in Sydney

How much will an automatic sliding gate cost?

A horizontal aluminium slat sliding gate installed by Bayside Gates in Collaroy Plateau in 2021..

It is very important to check how much of the gate is welded, some suppliers cut corners and don't weld all side of the joins on your aluminium gate frame to save time, which is how they come in cheaper, you might save some money but you'll end up with a gate that will possibly fail after a short time.

The cost of an aluminum sliding gate in Sydney is influenced by a number of factors.

Here are the key factors that contribute to the overall cost:

1. Size and Design: The size and design complexity of the aluminum sliding gate play a significant role in determining the cost. Larger gates and gates with intricate or custom designs will generally cost more than standard-sized and simpler designs.

2. Grade and Thickness of Aluminum: The quality and thickness of the aluminum used in the gate's construction can affect the price. Higher-grade and thicker aluminum is generally more expensive but offers better durability and longevity.

3. Automation and Technology: If you opt for an electric or automated aluminum sliding gate, the type and quality of the automation system will impact the cost. Advanced automation features, such as smart controls and integrated security systems, can add to the price.

4. Surface Finish and Coating: The type of surface finish and coating applied to the aluminum gate can affect both the appearance and the cost. Powder-coated finishes and other protective coatings may add to the overall price.

5. Installation Complexity: The ease of installation can influence the cost. Factors like the terrain and ground conditions of the installation site can impact the difficulty of installation, potentially leading to higher labor costs.

6. Accessories and Hardware: Additional accessories and hardware, such as handles, locks, hinges, and wheels, can contribute to the overall cost of the gate.

7. Brand and Reputation: The brand and reputation of the gate manufacturer or installer can also influence the cost. Well-established and reputable companies may charge more for their products and services.

8. Permitting and Regulations: Depending on your location in Sydney, there might be certain permitting and regulatory requirements for installing a sliding gate. Obtaining the necessary permits and ensuring compliance with regulations may involve additional costs.

9. Maintenance and Warranty: Consider the long-term costs of maintenance and any warranty provided by the manufacturer or installer.

10. Delivery and Transportation: If the gate needs to be transported from a distant location to your property, transportation costs may be a factor in the overall cost.

To determine the specific cost of an aluminum sliding gate for your property in Sydney, it's essential to get quotes from multiple reputable gate suppliers or installers. This way, you can compare prices and offerings to make an informed decision. Always ensure that the installation is carried out by professionals to ensure safety and proper functionality.

The cost of an automated sliding gate in Sydney.

Now that we've covered the range of factors, let's give you a site example to work out a minimum cost that you should expect to pay for an automated aluminium sliding gate in Sydney.

Because Sydney properties are smaller than other locations, we'll work on a driveway width of 3.5 metres and a front fence height of 1.6 meters, when calculating the gate width, you need the clear opening, in this case, 3.5 meters, then you need to add 0.5m to the opening to allow for the gate to overlap the driveway slightly, as well as enough room for the motor to attach to the gate. So now, our total gate width is 4m.

We are going to assume that the ground where the gate will be installed is level and we have a concrete driveway to bolt the gate track to, as well as a concrete pad behind the fence for the gate to open onto.

Our gate design will be a horizontal aluminium slat, with 10mm gaps between the slats, this is one of the most common gate designs installed in Sydney.

The gate frame will be fabricated using tubular aluminium, with 100x50x3 for the bottom rail and 50x50x3 for the rest of the frame, it is important to ensure a larger wall thickness tube is used for strength.

We will use quality Italian made hardware on the sliding gate, double bearing wheels and a galvanized steel track, with a galvanized steel support post that has a nylon block and channel guide system, a fabricated receiver bracket will be fitted to the front fence on the opposite side, to secure the gate in the closed position.

Once everything is fabricated, the gate, post and receiver bracket will be sent off to be powdercoated, with Dulux, Jotun and Interpon commonly used for gates, it is important to note that for gates that are to be installed close to the ocean, where the levels of corrosive, powdercoat damaging salt air is high, a specific type of powder must be used to survive in that environment, these warranty grade powders are more expensive than regular powder.

For this case, we will assume that we are far enough away from the ocean and use a Dulux Duralloy powdercoat in the standard range.

Onto the automation system, now we will assume that during the construction of this property, the builder had mains power ran out to the gate site in anticipation of the gate being installed, so the cost of the automation system installation will not include the cost to run power to the site.

The automation system we would use for this job would be a FAAC C720 Sliding Gate Automation System, which comes supplied with two remote controls, the FAAC C720 is a high quality Italian made sliding gate motor which carries a two year manufacturer's warranty, your Installer should match that with an onsite warranty.

You will also need a set of safety beams or photo electric beams (PE beams), the safety beams are installed on either side of the driveway, close to the gate, the beams will sense an obstruction in the gate's path and stop it from closing, saving potential damage to a vehicle or injury to a small child.

After the installation is complete, the installer will clean the site, your new gate and test that the gate operates correctly, once this is done, they will hand over your wonderful new automated sliding gate to you!

What you should expect to pay for your new automatic aluminium sliding gate....

With the above factors combined, for a 1.6m high, 4m wide powdercoated aluminium sliding gate with a quality FAAC C720 sliding gate automation system, you should expect to pay around $7,500 to $8,000 including GST. (This may fluctuate over time due to increases in raw material cost, fuel, energy prices, etc)

If you get a quote from a supplier that seems too good to be true, it usually is. When comparing quotes, make sure that each supplier is using the same quality materials and equipment, ensure to check their previous work too, ask to see a similar job they have done in your area in the last year or two, this way you can see the quality of their work after it has been out in the weather, you can also ask the homeowner how the job went and if they have had any issues with the gate, also ask to see the job they are currently working on, this will allow you to get real time feedback from that homeowner if they had any issues with the supplier.

It is very important to check how much of the gate is welded, some suppliers cut corners and don't weld all side of the joins on your aluminium gate frame to save time, which is how they come in cheaper, you might save some money but you'll end up with a gate that will possibly fail after a short time.

One of my favourite quotes that travels around the trade/construction industry; “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten”  - Benjamin Franklin

While a cheap gate may be appealing at the time, if it is constructed poorly you may end up replacing it well before a more expensive, well constructed gate would need to, which could end up costing you more than the more expensive gate in the long run.

A guide for homeowners in North Sydney, The lower North Shore and The Northern beaches. Automatic gates are essential for security and convenience, especially in high value Sydney suburbs where homeowners prioritise privacy and safety. Whether you’re looking for automatic gate repairs in Mosman , gate motor repair in Vaucluse , or electric gate service in Cremorne , the truth is the same: most gate failures can be prevented if the early warning signs are recognised. At Bayside Automatic Gates, we regularly attend call outs across Neutral Bay, Seaforth and Balgowlah Heights , and in most cases, the gate showed symptoms long before it stopped working entirely. This guide explains the top seven signs your automatic gate needs repair , helping you act early and avoid inconvenient or costly breakdowns. 1. Your Gate Is Slowing Down Homeowners booking automatic gate repair in Mosman often report that their gate has gradually slowed down. This issue is common in suburbs with sloped or long driveways. Common reasons gates slow down Motor wearing out Increased friction from stiff hinges Obstructions in the track Power supply issues Why it matters... A slow gate puts stress on the motor, especially on driveways in areas like Seaforth and Balgowlah Heights , where inclines can make the motor work harder. Fixing the issue early avoids a burned-out motor. 2. Strange or Excessive Noise When Operating Many residents who call for electric gate repairs in Vaucluse or automatic gate servicing in Cremorne do so because their gate has suddenly become noisy. Problem noises include: Grinding: worn gears or debris Squeaking: lubrication needed Clanking: misalignment or loose fittings Buzzing: electrical or motor resistance Why it matters... Salt air from waterfront locations like Vaucluse, Mosman, and Seaforth accelerates rust and wear, making early noise a warning sign of internal damage. 3. Gate Hesitating, Jerking, or Stopping Mid Movement Unpredictable gate movement is one of the most common reasons homeowners request automatic gate repair in Neutral Bay or sliding gate repairs in Cremorne . Likely causes Worn rollers Obstructions in the track Swing arms out of alignment Motor strain or overheating Faulty limit switches Safety risks... Jerking or reversing unexpectedly is dangerous for families, vehicles, pets, and pedestrians. 4. Remote or Keypad Becoming Unresponsive We frequently receive calls for gate automation repairs in Balgowlah Heights and remote gate troubleshooting in Mosman where homeowners think the remote is the issue, but the problem runs deeper. Potential causes Signal interference Faulty receiver Wiring issues Failing control board Weak remote batteries Why it matters... If the gate control system is weakening, it may fail entirely and stop responding, often at the most inconvenient time. 5. Gate Misalignment or Sagging Misalignment is one of the top issues leading to swing gate repairs in Vaucluse and automatic gate alignment services in Seaforth . Common causes Soil movement Loose hinges or brackets Damaged tracks Corrosion Ground shifts near waterfront properties Why it matters... A misaligned gate forces the motor to work harder than it should, often leading to motor burnout or full system failure. 6. Gate Not Opening or Closing Fully Homeowners often search for automatic gate not closing repair in Cremorne or electric gate stuck open repair in Neutral Bay when their gate suddenly refuses to complete its cycle. Likely reasons Dirty or misaligned safety sensors Faulty limit switches Debris blocking movement Motor overheating Gate scraping or dragging Security implications... A gate that won’t close properly leaves your property exposed and vulnerable. 7. Visible Wear, Corrosion, or Electrical Damage Visual damage is a major warning sign, especially in coastal suburbs like Mosman, Vaucluse, and Seaforth , where salt exposure is high. What to look for Rust on hinges, arms, or tracks Loose or corroded bolts Exposed or frayed wiring Damaged sensor housings Cracked gate posts or masonry Why it matters... Small visible issues often lead to major mechanical failure if ignored. Why Early Detection Is Essential for These Suburbs Whether you live in Mosman , Vaucluse , Neutral Bay , Cremorne , Seaforth , or Balgowlah Heights , your automatic gate is an important part of your home’s security and presentation. Early repairs help you: Avoid expensive motor replacements Maintain reliable access to your property Prevent system failure Extend your gate’s lifespan Protect your home's safety and privacy Avoid after-hours emergency call outs Maintenance Tips for Homeowners in These Areas 1. Keep the track/hinges clear Leaf litter, sand, and debris commonly collect in driveways across these suburbs. 2. Lubricate moving parts regularly Use gate-safe lubricants to avoid corrosion. 3. Clean sensors frequently Spider webs and dust block sensors in leafy areas like Cremorne and Balgowlah Heights . 4. Listen for unusual sounds Noise is one of the earliest signs of internal wear. 5. Schedule yearly professional servicing This is especially important in coastal suburbs like Mosman and Vaucluse . When to Call a Professional Automatic gates combine electronics, motors, structural components, and safety systems. DIY repairs can cause further damage—or pose a safety risk. A professional technician can: Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues Realign or balance the gate Repair or replace worn parts Service motors and control boards Prevent future breakdowns Bayside Automatic Gates proudly services automatic gate repairs in Mosman , gate motor repairs in Vaucluse , electric gate servicing in Cremorne , automatic gate maintenance in Neutral Bay , sliding gate repairs in Seaforth , and gate automation troubleshooting in Balgowlah Heights . Why Commercial Property Managers Should Choose a Reputable Provider for Boom Gates in Sydney Managing a commercial property in Sydney, whether it’s an industrial complex, logistics centre, factory, or multi-level car park comes with major responsibilities. One of the most important is ensuring safe, reliable and controlled vehicle access. This is where boom gates , also known as traffic barriers , play a critical role. Why Choosing a Reputable Boom Gate Supplier in Sydney Is Essential Boom gates are an investment in your property’s security and operational efficiency. But the equipment is only half the equation—the company installing and maintaining it matters just as much. Here’s why the choice of provider is critical. 1. Expert installation prevents future failures A boom gate can only perform as well as it is installed. Incorrect installation leads to: Motor failures Faulty sensors Excessive wear Electrical issues Safety risks A reputable provider ensures the boom gate’s mechanical, electrical, and safety systems are set up correctly from day one. 2. Quality workmanship ensures long term reliability Boom gates in commercial settings may open and close thousands of times a week. High quality workmanship ensures all components operate in harmony, delivering reliability under constant use. This is especially important for car park boom gates in busy commercial buildings where downtime is not an option. 3. Fast and professional service reduces downtime When issues occur, prompt service is vital. A reputable company prioritises rapid response times and offers professional, friendly communication, essential traits when you’re managing a busy commercial site. 4. Proper maintenance protects your investment Ongoing maintenance is crucial for safety and performance. A reliable provider offers regular scheduled servicing, ensuring your system remains compliant and functional. This is particularly important when considering the maintenance service for commercial boom gates , as commercial equipment requires regular inspection to maintain safety standards. Boom Gate Failures: The Hidden Cost for Commercial Properties Property managers often underestimate how costly boom gate failures can be, not just in repair bills, but in operational disruption and reputational damage. Examples of real world problems caused by poor quality installations or equipment: Tenants locked out of car parks during peak times Delivery trucks unable to access loading docks Security compromised at industrial estates Vehicles damaged due to faulty sensors or motors Emergency overflow into public streets Staff stuck onsite after hours Reliable boom gates dramatically reduce these risks. In contrast, low quality systems or unskilled installers introduce ongoing problems. This is why choosing the best boom gate suppliers in Sydney is not only convenient, it's essential for maintaining smooth operations and tenant satisfaction. The Importance of Regular Maintenance and Servicing Commercial boom gates are complex mechanical and electronic systems that require periodic servicing to stay safe and reliable. Without proper maintenance, even high quality systems like FAAC can experience premature wear. Why maintenance is essential: 1. Prevents unexpected breakdowns Scheduled servicing ensures small issues are identified before they become costly failures. 2. Extends equipment lifespan A well-maintained boom gate can last many years longer than a neglected one. 3. Ensures legal safety compliance Commercial properties have strict safety obligations. A maintained boom gate reduces liability. 4. Reduces long-term costs Preventative maintenance is significantly cheaper than emergency repairs. 5. Ensures peak performance Maintenance keeps the system operating as quickly, quietly, and efficiently as intended. A reputable company offering maintenance service for commercial boom gates will: Lubricate moving parts Check control boards Inspect motors and gearing Test safety sensors Check alignment Review wiring and connections Perform full operational tests This ensures your boom gate remains safe and functional 365 days a year.
